How does a cheap power bank affect my phone?

Cheap might very well mean FAKE. So, you must be very careful, even if you have a chap phone.

Fake power banks are dangerous. They can damage your phone, cause a fire or explosion, hence can ultimately be very costly.

Fake power banks have fake parts in them and are often overrated. For instance if the internal current regulator is fake it wont be able to do the job. As a result your cheap power bank can overheat and cause fire/explosion. The true cost of cheap/fake power banks is the damage they cause. Be very careful especially with unbranded power banks. All electronic gadgets have a risk of fire/explosion but the risk is much higher for fake/unbranded products particularly fake power banks.

How cheap/fake/unbranded power banks damage your phone

  1. If there’s a sudden current volatility, it could blow up the internal control circuit of your power bank and cause a fire. If it doesn't blow up but is damaged, you may not now and when you then charge your phone with it, unregulated current could flow into your phone and damage it.
  2. If your power bank is fake and you don’t even know its fake, it may lack the safety features of genuine products; and may blow up if overcharged or damage your phone from continued usage.
Prevention is better than cure!
